Amherst Island Owls and Raptors
February 16, 2021

Amherst Island is well-known in the Ontario birding community as an excellent location to search for owls and other raptors during the winter. This tour is a full day of birding on Amherst Island. We will drive the island's roads in search of Snowy and Short-eared Owls, Rough-legged Hawks, Northern Harriers, Snow Buntings, finches and much more. We will also explore the famous Owl Woods, where Long-eared, Northern Saw-whet and Barred Owls can sometimes be found. Amherst Island is a premier birding destination during the winter, and I am excited to see what we can find!

Gulling Along the Niagara River
February 20, 2021

The Niagara River is one of the premiere gull-watching locations in the world, and the period from mid November until early January is the peak season. The focus of this day will be studying the various plumages of gulls, searching out a variety of gull species, and keeping an eye out for other waterbirds. The Niagara River is one of my favourite birding locations in Ontario and I will be running day trips every weekend during the peak season.
